Most drivers that visit our Grand Rapids, MI dealership looking for a vehicle that offers low emissions and high gas mileage end up checking out the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. With 40 mpg on the highway and an advanced gas/electric powertrain, this sedan fits the bill quite nicely.
The Sonata's upscale amenities and impressive performance stats (even though it’s a hybrid it still turns out 199-hp!) will likely make this a prime choice for drivers that are looking for a luxurious green machine for years to come. However, it looks like our brand is prepping to expand their environmentally-conscious lineup by adding an EV and even a fuel cell vehicle into the mix.
Hyundai America boss, Michael O'Brien, recently announced that the automaker is working on an all-new Electric vehicle for the US market. Details are sparse, but we know that the model will fit into the compact class and that it will arrive at showrooms in three years' time.
Before we get the all-electric model, we should see the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell arrive. In fact, it will be rolling into West Coast dealers as early as this spring. Operating on hydrogen and electricity, the crossover emits absolutely no CO2 and it can cover up to 300 miles before refilling. When you do need to top-up, it shouldn’t take you longer than ten minutes to do so, either.
It's a little hard to believe that we'll have fuel cell models here in US that soon, but we're excited about the implications. Keep a close eye on our Fox Hyundai blog for more information about fuel cell technology hitting Michigan. And to give the Sonata Hybrid a whirl, just stop into our showroom today.
