For three years now, Hyundai has held its IDEA festival, an internal contest to challenge its engineers and designers to create futuristic transportation solutions. To create excitement for the event, the brand has released several of its best concepts created during IDEA 2012, and they're quite impressive!
Among the innovative creations were the E4U ("Egg, Evolution, Electricity and Eco-Friendliness"), a 176-pound, one-person car that integrates the driver directly into the car, with the top of the egg resting on his/her head. This car uses a single motor for motivation and steering and a "hemisphere design" that gives the driver the ability to tilt and pivot. It is designed for speeds of about 15mph and tight urban streets.
Other stand out entries from last year's show include an electric bike that could fold into a spare tire and a multi-rotor flying car that was designed to commute over the top of traffic congestion. Though concepts like these may never make their way to production lines, they certainly are fun to watch, and we can't help but hope that they will influence automobiles of the future!
