At Fox Hyundai, we're committed to keeping our blog readers up-to-date with the latest news and events related to the brand. Automakers, including Hyundai, are working hard to stay on top of the changing fuel and energy constraints today, striving to offer increasingly efficient and eco-friendly options.
Recently there has been some speculation as to what the next contribution from Hyundai will be to the green auto scene. Could there be something groundbreaking in store in the future for new Hyundai lineup?
The rumors revolve around the possibility of a new EV vehicle actualized by the recent mandate in California stating that all automakers must offer a zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) in their lineup. You might have heard that the South Korean brand already has something in the works overseas, the ix35: a fuel-cell version of the popular Hyundai Tuscon.
Although this model is a great step towards a ZEV, it does not actually meet the future emissions laws requirements. While the technology does in fact qualify the ix35 as a zero-emissions vehicle, in the retail world, hydrogen fuel-cell technology is rather new. Suitable refueling stations are not yet available to cater to the vehicles. Many players, including Hyundai, are working hard to further the development of such infrastructure through a public-private partnership with the Department of Energy known as H2USA. Their goal is to mainstream thriving, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles and support for them.
