Hyundai is known for contributing large sums to the development of hydrogen fuel cell which it, in general, believes is a much better alternative fuel source than any other, including all electric, battery-powered fueltrains.

But now, a certain organization in California (the California Energy Commission or CEC) has bestowed upon Hyundai money for the development of the same. Specifically, the CEC is giving Hydrogen Frontier and subsequently, Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc., a $3 million grant to build a new 100 percent renewable hydrogen fueling station in California.

With the endowment comes some terms: one of which states that the renovations at the center need to be completed for October 2014, this will also be the same time that the fueling station becomes available for public use. The facility will be in large part designed to expand the hydrogen fuel cell structure in California, and the U.S. in general.

"Hyundai has been supporting governments, energy companies and other organizations globally to develop an easily accessible and affordable hydrogen infrastructure," says Dr. Sung Hwan Cho, president, Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. "With world-class partners like Hydrogen Frontier and the support of the California government, we are expanding the hydrogen fueling infrastructure and taking one more step toward mass production of a fuel cell electric vehicle."1

The Hyundai Tucson fuel cell auto may be headed to the U.S. somewhat soon, but there are several highly-efficient and all high-quality new Hyundai models available for sale right here at Fox Hyundai.
